Screen time

How do you manage screen time for yourself?

Well I am using the computer at lot given my job as an system technician working at It company that makes software for schools so much of my work day involves a screen.

As for personal then I am started to feel like I am a bit too much addicted to screens since I have always been a gamer and video nerd which so far I have thought up 3 ways to avoid it a bit. So slowly I am trying going the other way a bit.

Step 1

I am very addicted to Reddit these days so on my phone I am using an awesome app called One-sec which helps by blocking your access to what you want by stopping you and then makes you think an extra time if you really want to go on Reddit or what else. It helps me and since it is also on my browser on my computer I can stop myself there as well.

Step 2

I am still gaming a bit much and watching series too much. So I recently starting feeling that if I looked at what watching and so on as I am tracking my viewing then maybe I could also give myself a control to stop that as well so using Trakt for that. I have yet to find a good one for gaming and I am still figure out what my alternative options should be as I am still walking, climbing, yoga and being a scout as well in my free time so it is not always I am in front of a screen.

Step 3

I have also thought of maybe move my calendar and so on offline as well so I will get the notifications from my phone still but maybe mainly have the main things in a journal and calendar instead. For that I am only in my very early steps but looking at Rocketbook and Bambook for that.

Conclusion

As you can see then I am slowly getting a bit away from screens all the time but I feel that it is not the screens which are the problem but what we use the screens for. Like I am on my own at home and not the best at being around people all the time, just look at the day I had today, my trains had issues so lots of extra people and got delayed to work, had 3 meetings while normally none, so I have been very social today which made me fall asleep at home and just woke up. I am not the best at making friends in person so if I want friends I chat online or use slowly so to me screens are a lot for me in a good way while these days parents are busy with work and so on meaning less time with the kids and instead of being with them, they just give them an iPad or something else to watch. So crazy. I know I am not a parent yet so I am not allowed to talk about that but that is bad screen use to me.
